The Town Hall has always been one of Watford’s most familiar landmarks, a building generations have walked past, had fond memories of, or simply known as part of the town’s story. Yet over the years, it slowly became a place fewer people entered. With services becoming more digital, offices and meeting rooms replaced the lively civic heart it was built to be.
Now, the Town Hall Quarter project is bringing it back to life. This is a once‑in‑a‑generation moment to return a much‑loved building to the people it was originally created for.
When its doors reopen in 2027, the Town Hall will feel different, not because its heritage has been lost, but because its purpose has been rediscovered.
Bringing the Town Hall back to the town
In 2027, the Town Hall itself will be opened up and reimagined. Instead of being used mainly for meetings behind closed doors, it will once again become a building for the town.
Plans include:
- A new museum celebrating Watford’s history and identity
- An innovation hub supporting ideas, skills and local enterprise
- A café and places to meet and spend time
- Improved and more accessible council services
- Flexible community spaces
- New homes and places to eat
- A new health facility
