On Thursday 7 May 2026, voters came out to have their say on who should serve as Watford’s Mayor for the next 2 years and over 50% voted for Peter Taylor, of the Liberal Democrats.
During his last term, the Mayor has delivered on key commitments for Watford, including the creation of the Green Loop, the re-opening of the Colosseum, significant improvements to leisure centres across the borough, investments in parks such as St Mary’s Churchyard and a strong programme of community events, the majority of which are free or low-cost, ensuring residents of all ages can take part.
Looking ahead to the coming term, he is committed to continuing that momentum and focusing on the priorities that matter most to local people:
- Keeping council tax as low as possible. Watford Council’s share of council tax has been frozen this year and will never increase by more than inflation.
- Fighting for better services, including improvements to Watford General Hospital and local bus and rail services.
- Continuing to invest in the town’s parks and leisure centres
- Ensuring Watford’s residents and businesses have a strong voice during Local Government Reorganisation.
Elected Mayor of Watford, Peter Taylor: "It is a real honour to be trusted once again by residents to serve our town. Thank you to everyone who took the time to come out and vote. I’m proud of what we’ve delivered together so far, and I’m determined to keep working hard to make Watford an even better place to live, work and visit. I love this town and will do everything I can to ensure it continues to thrive for everyone."
