Health Walks are fun, free and led by friendly, trained volunteers. They have walks to suit all abilities and they often end with a cuppa...
Between 1 April 2025 and 31 March 2026, Hertfordshire Health Walks delivered 692 walks in Watford and Three Rivers, with an incredible 8,382 attendances. More importantly, walkers feedback that the programme is changing their lives. Twelve months after registering:
- 70% said they were more physically active
- 65% felt healthier overall
- 59% reported feeling more socially connected
These outcomes highlight the powerful role Health Walks play in improving both physical and mental wellbeing.

GP Partner @ Parkbury House Surgery in St Albans, Dr Richard Pile, Lifestyle Medicine Physician and Cardiology Specialist, shared:
“Walking is one of the most effective, accessible and evidence‑based ways to support both physical and mental health—particularly for people living with long‑term conditions or social isolation. The Hertfordshire Health Walks Scheme offers a safe, welcoming and well‑organised way for patients to build regular physical activity into their lives, with added benefits of social connection and growing confidence. I’ve taken part myself and experienced the benefits first‑hand. As a GP and lifestyle medicine physician, I would strongly encourage health and care professionals to refer patients to these walks as a practical, low‑cost intervention that genuinely improves wellbeing.”
Hertfordshire Health Walks are delighted to announce that the Watford Three Rivers Health Walks Timetable May - August 2026 is now live. Thanks to the commitment of fantastic volunteers, there are twenty-two walks advertised, ranging from Gentle Walks for Beginners to faster, longer walks for those looking for more of a challenge as well as weekend walks too.
Hertfordshire Health Walks have also even created a family friendly timetable Family Friendly First Steps Grade 1 Timetable May - August 2026. There truly is something for everyone.
To celebrate National Walking Month, there will be a Mass Health Walk on Wednesday 6 May, with 20 walks taking place across Hertfordshire. It’s a brilliant opportunity for people to try a walk close to home and experience the benefits for themselves.
