Everyone Active has revealed the start date for an upcoming gym refurbishment at Watford Leisure Centre - Woodside, following recent news it will benefit from a £600,000 investment...

Works to upgrade the fitness facilities at the leisure centre will begin on Sunday, March 29, 2026, and are expected to be completed in spring 2026.

The centre, which is managed by Everyone Active on behalf of Watford Borough Council, will see a wide range of improvements designed to transform its fitness facilities and enhance the overall experience for members.

The project represents the first major refurbishment of the leisure centre since 2018 and will include a complete gym refresh featuring brand-new, state-of-the-art Life Fitness and Hammer Strength equipment.

Every area of the gym, from functional training and free weights to resistance and cardio, will be improved, offering members a wider range of training options.

A detailed ‘Track My Gym’ utilisation survey has been carried out to help shape the final layout of the upgraded facility and ensure it reflects the needs of the local community.

The survey results have helped determine the selection of new equipment, including additional squat racks and benches to meet rising demand, alongside Watt bikes and functional fitness equipment, supporting the growing Hyrox training trend.

During the refurbishment works, a temporary gym will be set up in the sports hall. Members will also be offered access to the nearby centre, Watford Leisure Centre – Central.

Elected Mayor of Watford, Peter Taylor, said: “Following the investment in Watford Leisure Centre – Central, which has been positively received by residents, we’re pleased to now begin improvements at Woodside.

“This investment shows our continued commitment to providing high-quality leisure facilities across Watford and supporting healthier, more active communities. By listening to the people who use our centres, we’re making sure these spaces are modern, welcoming and fit for the future.”
