Another Watford Deep Clean completed!

Deep clean 2026

The council, alongside its partners Veolia, Ringway, Murrill Construction and Hertfordshire County Council undertook street improvement works across the borough during the month of February...

Twenty-six streets – in the wards of Callowland, Leggatts, Holywell, Vicarage, Oxhey and Central Watford - received a ‘Deep Clean’, a project that targets areas that would usually be difficult to clean due to obstacles, such as large numbers of parked cars.

Overall, 1 to 3 tonnes of waste, leaves and detritus were cleared from each road. Veolia and Ringway also jet washed footpaths, removed graffiti and fly posting, and emptied drains to help water flow. During this time - with the help of Murrill Construction - some essential repairs were carried out to road and pavement surfaces.

Elected Mayor of Watford, Peter Taylor said: “Keeping Watford's streets clean and tidy is a top priority for us. Working with Veolia and our other partners, these deep cleans mean that we can go the extra mile to make streets look their very best.

“Our deep cleans help ensure streets are maintained to a consistently high standard, and I’m pleased with how well this has gone. We’re proud of Watford and want our residential roads to reflect this. I'm grateful to all the street cleaners who have helped with these deep cleans and who work so hard - week-in and week-out."

Darren Harding, Senior Contract Manager at Veolia Watford, said; “Our team takes great pride in keeping Watford clean. By undertaking the deep clean during February, we are able to tackle the aftermath of the winter weather and go beyond the routine street cleansing we deliver in Watford.

“We rely on residents to help us gain access to all parts of their streets, and once again they did a great job by keeping their vehicles off the roads we were working on. We would like to thank everyone for their help and co-operation during these works.”

Residents are encouraged to help keep our town clean and safe by reporting street cleansing issues to Watford Borough Council at www.watford.gov.uk/report-it and referring potholes or drain issues to Hertfordshire County Council at hertfordshire.gov.uk/services/highways-roads-and-pavements/report-a-problem/report-a-highway-fault/what-type-of-fault-are-you-reporting.aspx
