Watford Community Housing has upgraded the play space in Holywell thanks to a generous grant of £12,500 from Watford Borough Council's Neighbourhood Grant programme...
The investment builds on earlier council funding at Foxhill playground, which is also managed by Watford Community Housing, and helped transform the space with modern amenities, inclusive play equipment and improved landscaping.
At Holywell, the latest improvements include revamping large sections of the flooring, replacing the cradle swing and installing a new zipwire, adding an exciting and adventurous feature to the play area. The upgrade provides more opportunities for children and young people to be active outdoors, reinforcing the shared commitment of Watford Community Housing and the council to high-quality neighbourhood play spaces.
Elected Mayor of Watford, Peter Taylor, said: “Play areas are such an important part of what makes a community thrive, giving children a safe place to play, learn, and connect with others. That’s why we’ve continued to invest in improving these spaces across Watford for more than a decade.”

Amy Willcox-Smith, Assistant Director of Customers and Communities at Watford Community Housing, said: “We are grateful to the council for their generous support through the Neighbourhood Grant programme. It’s a great example of how, by working together, we can create places that support families’ wellbeing and make our neighbourhoods even better for everyone"
The next round of funding for the Neighbourhood Grant will be in 2026. To find out more, including this year’s projects, please visit www.watford.gov.uk/community. The programme funded by the Community Infrastructure Levy (CIL) from developers of new housing, operates annually to mitigate the effects of development and enhance the local community's sustainable growth.
