WATFORD BOROUGH COUNCIL – HACKNEY CARRIAGE TABLE OF FARES (PROPOSED VARIATION)
NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that Watford Borough Council proposes to vary the Hackney Carriage Table of Fares as set out below. The proposed Table will be available for inspection free of charge at Watford Borough Council, Town Hall, Watford WD17 3EX (Mon–Fri) and below.
TABLE OF FARES
For between 1 and 5 passengers (tariffs 1 and 2) and for 6 passengers or more (tariffs 3 and 4) There is a minimum charge of £2.90
TARIFF 1 - Monday to Sunday hiring commenced between 06:00 and 23:00
- For the first 109.7 metres (120 yards) or 25.7 seconds - £2.90
- For each additional 64 metres (70 yards) or 15 seconds until the fare reaches £4.60 - 20p
- For each additional 128 metres (140 yards) or 31 seconds thereafter - 20p
TARIFF 2 - Monday to Sunday hiring commenced between 23:00 and 06:00 or during a public holiday
- For the first 73.2 metres (80 yards) or 18.7 seconds - £2.90
- For each additional 43 metres (47 yards) or 11 seconds until the fare reaches £5.60 - 20p
- For each additional 96 metres (105 yards) or 26 seconds thereafter - 20p
TARIFF 3 - Monday to Sunday hiring commenced between 06:00 and 23:00
- For the first 109.7 metres (120 yards) or 25.7 seconds - £4.00
- For each additional 64 metres (70 yards) or 15 seconds until the fare reaches £6.60 - 30p
- For each additional 128 metres (140 yards) or 31 seconds thereafter - 30p
TARIFF 4 - Monday to Sunday hiring commenced between 23:00 and 06:00 or during a public holiday (6 persons and over)
- For the first 73.2 metres (80 yards) or 18.7 seconds - £4.00
- For each additional 43 metres (47 yards) or 11 seconds until the fare reaches £8.40 - 30p
- For each additional 96 metres (105 yards) or 26 seconds thereafter - 30p
The driver may impose a soiling fee of £80 for a taxi that requires cleaning.
Drivers will charge double the fare shown on the meter on 24 and 31 December after 23:00, and on 25 December and 1 January each year.
The passenger(s) shall be liable for any additional motorway and crossing tolls, tariff, and congestion charges.
By agreeing to hire this taxi you are entering into a legally binding contract with the driver.
Objections/comments: Any person may object by writing to licensing@watford.gov.uk (or Licensing, Town Hall, Watford WD17 3EX) or via surveymonkey.com/r/taxi-tariff-wbc. Objections must be received by 12 noon on 30 January 2026 (being not less than 14 days from first publication).
