The Elected Mayor of Watford welcomed the new members at his Christmas Business Reception and highlighted the importance of collaboration between the council and the business community.
Watford Borough Council has welcomed several new businesses who have joined the Watford Business Pledge, marking another step forward in the council’s commitment to responsible, sustainable and community-focused business practices.
Elected Mayor of Watford, Peter Taylor, said: “It was great to welcome our newest Watford Business Pledge members and ambassadors and celebrate their achievements. Congratulations to all the businesses who have signed up to the Watford Business Pledge. We now have just under 30 members and supporters of this innovative programme.
“Our town is home to many dynamic and thriving companies, and this pledge is just another initiative we have to help local businesses connect with each other and champion good business practices.”
Head of Economic Development at Watford Borough Council, Cherie Norris, said: “It has been great to see how much the Watford Business Pledge has grown. This is testament to the real benefits it brings to local businesses, including opportunities to connect and share best practice. This reflects the growing commitment of organisations across the borough to driving positive change and working collaboratively. Watford Business Pledge information:
The Pledge is centered around 5 key commitments and businesses can apply for 3 levels, Supporter, Member or Ambassador. The 5 Commitments are:
- To be an employer of choice
- To support local employment through recruitment and training activities
- To support local communities, focusing on social value activities locally
- To buy local, exploring local supply options before going elsewhere
- To adopt a green approach and embed environmentally sustainable practices
Ambassadors of the Watford Business Pledge have now only shown to meet the 5 committments but have initiatives in place to encourage other businesses to do the same.
Hab Law – Ambassador of supporting the local community, informally mentor smaller businesses and charity partners by offering guidance on integrating pro bono support, developing social value strategies and fostering volunteer involvement.
Prohal – Ambassador of supporting the local community, collaborate with local charities such as Watford Food bank to organize volunteer days focused on food collection, distribution and support services. They also support other businesses through workshops, one-to-one advice and collaborative projects.
EMW Law – Ambassador of being an employer of choice, bring HR business specialists together to share best practices in recruitment, retention and workplace culture.
CleanTEC – Ambassador for sustainability have an environmental lead who regularly attends evens with other organisations to discuss best practices in ecological sustainability and share their knowledge with others via these events and on social media.
