Watford Borough Council and Watford Healthy Hub are proud to have hosted a series of community events as part of the international 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence campaign...
Running from 25 November to 10 December, these events brought together residents, partners, and organisations to raise awareness, provide support, and reaffirm our shared commitment to ending violence against women and girls.
The campaign began with a symbolic moment as the White Ribbon flag was raised outside Watford Town Hall, where it flew throughout the 16 Days of Activism. The event featured speeches from Mayor of Watford Peter Taylor, Chairman of Watford Borough Council Councillor Favour Ify Ezeifedi, and representatives from partner organisations, all reaffirming our united stance against violence.
Throughout the 16 Days, Watford Borough Council proudly celebrated its White Ribbon accreditation, demonstrating its ongoing dedication to creating a safer community where women and girls can live free from fear and harm.
The Watford Healthy Hub worked closely with partners including Watford Women’s Centre Plus, Watford Community Housing, Hertfordshire Mind Network, and the British Red Cross to deliver a range of drop-in sessions and engagement activities. These provided residents with opportunities to connect, seek advice, and learn more about local services available to support those affected by gender-based violence.
Elected Mayor of Watford, Peter Taylor, said: "I am proud that Watford Council has achieved White Ribbon reaccreditation, reaffirming our strong commitment to ending violence against women and girls. I’m grateful to our Healthy Hub and partners like Hertfordshire Mind Network for providing vital resources and support to residents. This work doesn’t stop here, help is available all year round, and together we can create a safer, stronger community."
Deputy Mayor and Portfolio Holder for Community, Cllr Aga Dychton, said: "Supporting these events has been a privilege, and I’m proud of the way our community has come together to stand against gender-based violence. Ending violence is a shared responsibility, and Watford is committed to making a lasting difference."
