Watford Mayor’s charity Christmas card raises over £11,000 for local charities

Watford christmas card 1 1

The annual Watford Mayor’s Charity Christmas Card has once again proven to be a success, raising £11,000 to support three vital local charities.

This year’s festive card, designed by David from DRUM, captures a festive scene on Vicarage Road, outside Watford Football Club. Each year, the cards are designed to capture the spirit of the season and the essence of the local community.

The campaign was made possible thanks to the generosity of eighteen local businesses, including Wenta, Murrill Construction, Everyone Active, Warner Bros, West Herts Golf Club, Sigma, Veolia, Berkeley Group, Bugler Group, VWV, Cortland Cassiobury, Prohal Chartered Accountants, Lamberts London, HAB Law, CleanTEC Services, Barclays, Watford Football Club, and Nine Group.

All proceeds from this year’s card will benefit Rennie Grove Peace Hospice, Watford Foodbank, and Watford DRUM. Rennie Grove provides compassionate care for people with life-limiting illnesses and their families, supporting them through every stage from diagnosis to bereavement. Watford Foodbank works with local agencies, schools, and churches to provide emergency food and support to people in crisis, while DRUM offers day activities, services, and community support for adults with physical disabilities and their carers.

Sarah Sullivan, Manager of DRUM, said: “We are delighted that Peter chose DRUM as one of three local charities to receive donations from his Christmas card. We are extremely proud of David, for his brilliant artwork of Watford FC, personally chosen by the Mayor as his Christmas card design this year. We are hugely grateful to all the sponsors for their generosity this year and that their support will enable DRUM to continue providing support and services to disabled members, their families, and carers.”

Jackie from Rennie Grove Peace, said: “Rennie Grove Peace is delighted to be one of three charities benefiting from this year’s Mayor’s Christmas Card. Thanks to Peter Taylor and the amazing generosity of all the sponsors, we will receive £3,700, alongside Watford Foodbank and DRUM. This support means so much, particularly as we head into the festive season. Our care continues 24/7 throughout the Christmas period and this amount could fund 12 days of care from one of our specialist nurses—whether in our inpatient unit in the heart of Watford or in a patient’s home. A huge and heartfelt thank you to everyone who made this possible!”

Jane from Watford Food Bank, said “Watford Foodbank is hugely grateful to the Mayor for supporting us this year and to all the companies who kindly donated to this wonderful initiative.”
