On Saturday 6 December, hundreds of Watford residents came together at Woodside Playing Fields to collect their trees as part of the Your Tree Our Future initiative, a county-wide project aimed at boosting tree planting across Hertfordshire.

Hosted by Watford Borough Council and Veolia UK at the Woodside Depot, the event ran from 10am to 3pm and saw enthusiastic participation from local individuals, families, and community groups. Residents collected a variety of young trees to plant in their gardens, shared spaces, and community areas, each one contributing to a greener, healthier future for the county.

Your Tree Our Future is a collaborative effort delivered by Hertfordshire County Council, district and borough councils, and voluntary sector partners. The initiative empowers residents, businesses, and community organisations to take part in tree planting and environmental stewardship.

Originally launched with the goal of planting 100,000 trees over four years, the project has already surpassed expectations. In just three years, more than 190,000 trees have been planted thanks to the dedication of Hertfordshire’s communities. This year, the target has been raised to 250,000 trees, reflecting the growing momentum and public support for climate action and biodiversity.

Elected Mayor of Watford, Peter Taylor, said: "It’s fantastic to see so many residents taking part in this initiative. Every tree planted helps our town become more sustainable and will improve air quality locally. We’re proud to support this project and grateful to everyone who came out to collect and plant their trees."
