The first phase of major refurbishment works at Watford Leisure Centre - Central is now complete, marking a significant milestone in the £3 million project to modernise and expand the facility...

Jointly funded by Watford Borough Council (up to £2.5 million) and Everyone Active (approximately £560,000), the refurbishment is delivering improved capacity, accessibility and a better experience for all users.

Phase one has seen the installation of a new spin studio featuring 28 Keiser bikes with immersive lighting and sound, upgraded changing facilities with a modern look and feel, and improvements throughout the centre’s interiors – including the corridors, sports hall mezzanine and offices.

Customers can book onto classes in the new spin studio using the Everyone Active App.

To celebrate the completion of this first stage, Elected Mayor of Watford, Peter Taylor, visited the centre to experience the new spin studio, meeting staff and seeing first-hand how the improvements are already benefitting the local community.

The upgrades are set to enhance the experience for all members, creating a more inclusive and welcoming environment.

The full leisure centre refurbishment is set to be completed in Spring 2026. Once finished, the centre will boast three high-quality studios, an extended state-of-the-art gym that almost doubles in size, improved accessibility with more IFI-accredited equipment, and fully refurbished changing facilities.
