Watford Borough Council, in partnership with Three Rivers District Council, the National Energy Foundation, and the Department for Energy Security and Net Zero, is supporting eligible households to improve energy efficiency and reduce heating costs through the Warm Homes programme.
The initiative provides fully funded energy upgrades, including insulation, double glazing, solar panels, and heat pumps, worth up to £30,000 per household. These improvements are designed to make homes warmer, greener, and more affordable to run, helping residents live more comfortably while reducing their carbon footprint.
As part of the works, the refurbishment of a 100-year-old cast iron sign attached to the side of the terrace has also been completed. Carefully restored and repainted, the sign stands as a proud symbol of the town’s heritage, preserving its character while ensuring homes are upgraded to meet the needs of future generations.
Elected Mayor of Watford, Peter Taylor, said: "This scheme is a fantastic opportunity for residents to improve their homes, reduce energy bills, and contribute to a more sustainable future. We’re proud to be working with our partners to deliver real benefits to our community."
One local resident from Willow Lane shared their experience: "I was so pleased to find out that I was eligible for the Warm Homes funding. I am looking forward to feeling the benefits of all the works; hopefully living in a warmer house as well as saving money. Carbon Rewind's team have all been cheerful, friendly and helpful in explaining what they were doing; a credit to Carbon Rewind."
Households in Watford with an Energy Performance Certificate (EPC) rating of D, E, F or G may be eligible for Warm Homes funding. Eligibility is based on receiving certain benefits or having a gross annual income below £36,000. Prive homeowners and tenants, with their landlord's consent, can apply.
