Watford Borough Council is proud to have supported community partners to deliver the Watford Festival of Lights, a joyful Diwali celebration that lit up the town last weekend.
Across two days, residents and visitors enjoyed a rich programme of creativity, colour, culture, community and celebration at venues including the Pump House Theatre, Harlequin Event Space, Watford Palace Theatre and the Town Centre.
From vibrant performances and children’s activities to delicious Indian street food and creative workshops, there was something for everyone to enjoy throughout the weekend.
This year’s Festival of Lights was originally thought of by Nilanjana Paul from The IndradhanushKids Academy and delivered in partnership with a wide range of local community partners, including:, P2M, World Council of Hindus UK, Watford Town Centre BID, Watford Palace Theatre, Salters Residential, Harlequin Watford, P2M Properties, Watford Pump House, Watford Indian Association, School of Bhakti, Museum of Watford, Spiritual Republik and Bhaktivedanta Manor.
Elected Mayor of Watford, Peter Taylor, said: "It was great to join everyone for the Diwali lights in Watford Town Centre. I’m grateful to all the groups who came together to make this celebration happen. Thank you to the organisers, sponsors, performers and volunteers. It was wonderful to see residents of all backgrounds and ages united for this celebration which recognises the victory of light over darkness and of good over evil. Happy Diwali!"
The event was also made possible thanks to support from the Watford Community Fund. The Fund continues to welcome donations, so support reaches those who need it most.
