The council has completed another package of improvements on St Albans Road, delivering a safer, more welcoming and accessible environment for everyone who lives, works and shops in the area...
Improvements focused on the west carriageway footpath from Langley Road to Lowestoft Road. High-quality paving now lines the route, damaged safety barriers have been replaced, and refreshed road markings make journeys clearer.
More cycle parking has also been added, while new greenery and the removal of unnecessary signs create a cleaner, more attractive street scene. Improvements are also planned later this year for the footpath on the east carriageway between Penn Road and Brixton Road.
These upgrades build on previous regeneration further along St Albans Road, from Brixton Road to Bushey Mill Lane, which introduced new seating and pavements, landscaping, small public spaces and better cycling facilities. In recent years, additional funding has also been secured to combat fly-tipping and gum litter, highlighting the council’s commitment to keeping the town clean and inviting.
Elected Mayor of Watford, Peter Taylor, said: “Seeing these works finished is fantastic news for everyone who uses St Albans Road. Residents and visitors can now enjoy a brighter, safer and more attractive space, and local businesses will benefit from the improved environment. This is a real step forward in making Watford an even better place to live, work and visit.”
Councillor Ian Stotesbury, Portfolio Holder for Transport and Sustainability, said: "With these works now complete, St Albans Road feels more open, safer and easier to get around. We hope that the new improvements will make the shopping parade a more pleasant one for residents and businesses and help to tackle the problem of illegal and antisocial parking on the pavement.
“To help tackle this we will continue to monitor the area with parking wardens and coordinate with the police. We aim to bring more improvements to parades across the town in the coming years."
