New disability-friendly footpaths completed in North Watford

New disabled-friendly footpaths have been completed along the north side of Horseshoe Lane and in All Saints Church, thanks to partnership work between the council and Hertfordshire County Council...

The project has delivered safer and more accessible routes for local residents, particularly those with restricted mobility, wheelchair users, and families travelling to nearby schools. The improvements also support the town’s wider goals to promote active travel, reduce car use, and create a healthier, greener Watford.

The scheme was first proposed by Father Eddie of All Saints Church, who highlighted the need for better accessibility in the area. Working together, the two councils – with the support Tim Williams (County Councillor and Portfolio Holder for Neighbourhood Services at Watford) and the church community – developed and delivered the new footpaths as part of ongoing investment in local infrastructure.

Peter Taylor, Elected Mayor of Watford said: “I’m really pleased we have delivered such an important improvement for local residents in partnership with Hertfordshire County Council. Local residents and councillors have been very keen to see improvements here and I’m glad that we’ve made this happen. I’m very grateful to everyone who worked on this project. The new paths look great!”

Cllr Tim Williams, Portfolio Holder for Neighbourhood Services at Watford Borough Council, added: “This collaborative effort is a great example of how partnership working can deliver practical improvements that make everyday life easier, safer, and more inclusive for everyone in our community.”

The new pathway forms part of the town’s ongoing commitment to inclusive design and sustainable travel, ensuring everyone can move around Watford with confidence and ease.
