The Watford Riverwell joint venture has reached another significant milestone with the practical completion of Block 10...
This has delivered the final social housing element of Avenues Phase 1 at the £500m flagship Watford Riverwell regeneration scheme.
Representatives from Kier Property, Watford Borough Council, Watford Community Housing and the Mayor of Watford gathered on site to mark the handover of the new homes.
Block 10 provides high-quality, affordable homes that will contribute to the local community, supporting Watford’s wider commitment to delivering much-needed social housing. The building marks the completion of Avenues Phase 1, one of a series of residential phases designed to regenerate land in west Watford into a vibrant, sustainable neighbourhood, complete with new homes, green spaces, community facilities and employment opportunities.
Elected Mayor of Watford, Peter Taylor, said: “I’m delighted that 20 new homes for social rent are now complete, providing much-needed affordable housing for local families. Watford Riverwell will transform this part of our town into a vibrant new community with high-quality, sustainable homes, jobs, green spaces and facilities that will benefit Watford for generations to come.”
Leigh Thomas, group managing director of Kier Property, added: “We are delighted to achieve practical completion on Block 10 and hand over this important phase. Working with our joint venture partners, we remain committed to ensuring Watford Riverwell delivers high-quality homes and amenities that will serve the town for generations to come. In addition to providing much-needed housing, this large-scale regeneration project is delivering lasting social, environmental and economic benefits for Watford.”
Penny Metcalf, Group Director of Partnerships and Investment at Watford Community Housing, added: “Our mission is to meet the needs of our communities and that starts with affordable housing. The delivery of these homes at Watford Riverwell represents a vital opportunity for local people to find somewhere to live that is secure and sustainable, and we look forward to welcoming our new residents.”
The Watford Riverwell joint venture continues to make strong progress, with further phases of housing and infrastructure underway. Once complete, the 70-acre development will bring close to 1,000 new homes, commercial, an hotel, retail and leisure facilities and extensive public realm improvements to the town.
