Seaside fun returns to Watford with Big Beach 2025!

Big beach

Watford Borough Council is thrilled to announce the return of Big Beach, transforming the space next to Watford Central Library into a sandy escape for everyone to enjoy from 15 - 31 August!

Big Beach offers the classic British beach day right in the heart of the town centre, giving families, friends, and visitors the perfect way to soak up the summer without leaving Watford. With golden sand, deckchairs, and beach games, it’s a fantastic day out that’s completely free and open to all.

The beach hut will be open daily from 10am to 4pm, stocked with beach toys, buckets, and spades for everyone to enjoy. It also serves as an information point, offering assistance and details to help visitors make the most of their day out. You're welcome to bring your own food and drink or enjoy one of the many fantastic cafes and restaurants nearby.

This year’s activities will also include ‘Museum on Tour: Dig to Discover’ a hands-on experience from Watford Museum. Aimed at children aged 5–12, it will be next to the beach hut on Friday 22, Wednesday 27, Friday 29 and Saturday 30 August. Young explorers can become archaeologists for the day, uncovering replica artefacts and discovering the town’s ancient history through play.

Deputy Mayor of Watford and Portfolio Holder for Community, Councillor Aga Dychton, said “Big Beach is a key part of Watford’s summer calendar, offering residents and visitors of all ages a chance to relax, play beach games, or simply enjoy the sand and sunshine in a family-friendly setting. We are especially proud to provide these activities completely free, to ensure all families can experience the joy of summer.”

This vibrant event celebrates community spirit and offers a unique way to enjoy Watford’s town centre during the summer months. Make sure to visit and take part in the fun-filled activities awaiting you at Big Beach 2025. For more information, please visit: www.watfordactually.com/big-beach
