Funded by the National Lottery Heritage Fund, thanks to National Lottery players, Tales of the River has brought the town’s often-hidden riverside history to life over the past year, engaging hundreds of local families through storytelling, wild play, and heritage sessions.
Although this is the final Wild Play session, the Tales of the River legacy will continue to inspire local families to appreciate and protect the River Colne as part of Watford’s past, present, and future.
Councillor Ian Stotesbury, Portfolio Holder for Transport and Sustainability, said: “This project has shown how heritage, nature and sustainability go hand in hand. As we wrap up the Wild Play sessions, we want to ensure this is not the end but the beginning of an ongoing community connection with our river and green spaces. I encourage everyone to join us for the Tales of the River Festival on 9 August, a wonderful opportunity to celebrate together and explore what the river means to Watford today.”
