Colourscape, the immersive walk-in structure of colour and sound, is back from 16 to 25 August, offering visitors of all ages the chance to step into a vivid, multi-sensory world.
Since its first appearance in 2021, Colourscape has become a much-loved part of Watford’s summer, drawing thousands of people each year. But far from repeating the same formula, it continues to evolve — with new music, new performances, and a renewed focus on creativity and participation.
This years’ experience invites visitors to slow down and engage their senses, as they explore 70 interlinked chambers filled with intense colour. Live music and movement bring the space to life, creating an environment that feels different every time you enter.
The opening day — Saturday 16 August — will be a special Preview Day with no live music performances. This creates a quieter environment, which many families with neurodivergent children have found particularly welcoming in previous years.
From Sunday 17 August onwards, and on weekends and the bank holiday, Colourscape will host a varied programme of performances featuring professional musicians, dancers, and experimental instruments. During the week, resident musician Michael Ormiston will lead interactive, family-friendly sessions that encourage exploration and participation.
Advance booking is strongly recommended to guarantee preferred time slots and to help manage visitor numbers. While limited door tickets will be available, pre-booking is the best way to ensure a smooth and stress-free entry — particularly during peak times. You can reserve your tickets now at: watfordactually.com/colourscape.
Colourscape will be open from 11am to 4pm on weekdays, and 11am to 5pm on weekends and the bank holiday. Tickets are available on the door and cost £6 for adults and £4 for under-18s. Performance times vary, so visitors are encouraged to check the website for daily details.
Elected Mayor of Watford, Peter Taylor, said: "Colourscape has become a highlight of Watford’s summer because it offers something completely different. It’s creative, inspiring and truly interactive — a rare chance for people to step into a space that looks and feels like nothing else. We’re excited to welcome it back to Cassiobury Park and to support events that make art and culture accessible for everyone."
Eye Music, the Arts Council-funded organisation behind the event: “We’re thrilled to bring Colourscape back to Watford, where it’s been embraced as a space for creativity, exploration and connection. Each year we introduce new sounds, performances and ideas, so no two visits are ever the same. It’s a joyful, hands-on way to experience art — and we love seeing how people of all ages respond to it.”
Whether you're a returning fan or visiting for the first time, Colourscape offers an experience that sparks imagination and connection — right in the heart of one of Watford’s most beautiful green spaces. Find out more at watfordactually.com/colourscape.
