Watford Borough Council is calling on residents to support the life-changing digital inclusion programme, Staying Connected, funded by The National Lottery Community Fund, by donating unused devices.
The programme, delivered in partnership with Watford & Three Rivers Trust (W3RT), is helping residents across the town build the skills and confidence they need to thrive in a digital world. From older adults to refugees and people facing hardship, Staying Connected ensures no one in Watford is left behind as more services and social connections move online.
Since its launch, the programme has already provided 49 pieces of digital equipment to residents, enabling them to connect with loved ones, attend appointments, apply for jobs, and access vital services. But as demand for support continues to grow, more donated devices are urgently needed.
Elected Mayor of Watford, Peter Taylor, said: "This is an easy and practical way people in Watford can help others in our town. If you have a working laptop, smartphone or tablet that you no longer need, donating it to Staying Connected could have a huge impact on someone’s life. It might help them get back into work, talk to family, or simply access the services many of us take for granted."
Donated devices are securely wiped and refurbished before being passed on to residents who need them most. In addition to equipment, the programme provides personalised support through one-to-one sessions, social club visits and community partnerships – helping people not just to get online, but to feel confident and safe doing so.
If you have a spare device in good working condition, please consider donating it. The programme accepts:
- Laptops (working, under 10 years old)
- Smartphones (Android or iPhone, with charger if possible)
- Tablets (e.g. iPads, Samsung Galaxy Tabs)

Whether you’re clearing out a drawer or upgrading your tech, your donation can help someone in Watford take their next steps in an increasingly digital world.
