Cheslyn House in Watford is available as a wedding venue from this month, offering a beautiful location for marriage and civil partnership ceremonies in the town.
Watford Borough Council, who own and manage the former private house and its landscaped gardens and woodlands, have made the house available for ceremonies while construction work takes place at the Watford Register Office site in Hempstead Road.
Cheslyn House and Gardens received Green Heritage Site accreditation, because of its historic features and standard of conservation, and is a Green Flag winner The 3.5-acre haven features beautifully designed gardens, semi-natural woodlands, a tranquil pond, and an aviary with budgerigars, quail, and finches.
Bookings can currently be made for ceremonies at Cheslyn House between now and 7 May 2026.
Cllr Chris Lucas, Executive Member for Resources and Performance, said: “I’m delighted that we’re able to offer wedding ceremonies at this fantastic location while the ceremony room at Watford Register Office is out of action. I’m particularly pleased that we’ve been able to work with Watford Borough Council to offer weddings at Cheslyn House while keeping the beautiful house and gardens open for the local community.”
Elected Mayor of Watford, Peter Taylor, said: "Cheslyn House is one of Watford’s hidden gems and part of the 17 outstanding Green Flag-awarded parks and open spaces that we are so proud to have.
“It's great it can now host such special moments for couples in our town. While Hertfordshire County Council carry out essential works at the Register Office, Cheslyn offers a beautiful and unique alternative. The gardens and car park will remain open to the public on ceremony days, so everyone can continue to enjoy this much-loved space."
