Councillor Dawn Allen-Williamson has completed her term as Chairwoman of Watford Borough Council, marking a significant milestone as the first Black woman to hold this position...

The Caribbean community in Watford continues to make important contributions in the town, and Cllr Allen-Williamson’s service reflects an ongoing commitment to public service and local leadership. Drawing on her Jamaican and British heritage, she approached her role as both a representative figure and an active advocate for positive change in the community.

During her time in office, she supported initiatives that promoted inclusion, education, and social welfare. A key part of her year was fundraising for local charities, and she raised a record-breaking £17,603 for Ngorli C.I.C and the Manna Food Bank.

Ngorli C.I.C supports children from underrepresented backgrounds through mentoring, education, and cultural engagement. Its Saturday School and Mentorship Programme provide both academic and personal development opportunities. The Manna Food Bank, based at Elim Church on St Albans Road, offers food and essential support to individuals and families in need across the borough.

Elected Mayor of Watford, Peter Taylor, said: “A huge thank you to Councillor Dawn Allen-Williamson for her service as our Chairwoman this year. Dawn has represented our town with distinction and was the first Black Chairwoman of the council.

“She has done so much to include others at civic events, with local school children playing a key part many times. She’s also raised a record-breaking £17,603 for two brilliant local charities — Ngorli Community Interest Company and the Manna Food Bank at Elim Church. Thank you, Dawn!”

Although her term as Chair has now ended, Cllr Allen-Williamson remains a borough councillor and continues to be active in the community. Her focus on inclusion, leadership, and local engagement has left a lasting impression, particularly among younger generations and within Watford’s Caribbean community.

Reflecting on the past year, she thanked all those who supported the mayoral charities and participated in civic activities, including local schools. She gave special thanks to Headteacher Mrs Gillian Jackson and the pupils of Beechfield School.
