Join Hertfordshire Constabulary’s Violence Against Women and Girls Independent Advisory Group

Herts Police - VAWG

Help shape the future of policing in our community.

Are you passionate about improving the police response to Violence Against Women and Girls (VAWG)? Do you have lived experience or valuable insights to share? Hertfordshire Constabulary is inviting women in Watford and beyond to join their VAWG Independent Advisory Group (IAG).

What is the VAWG IAG?

The VAWG IAG is a collaborative, safe space where women can engage in open and constructive conversations. The group aims to influence how Hertfordshire Constabulary tackles VAWG by focusing on the four Ps:

  • Preparation: Enhancing readiness to address VAWG.
  • Prevention: Stopping VAWG before it happens.
  • Protection: Supporting and safeguarding those affected.
  • Pursuit: Bringing perpetrators to justice.

By joining the IAG, you’ll help shape the development and delivery of police services, ensuring they are effective, inclusive, and impactful.

Who can join?

The group is open to all women, regardless of whether you have direct experience of VAWG or simply want to contribute to making Hertfordshire a safer place.

What’s involved?

As a member of the VAWG IAG, you will:

  • Provide valuable input: Share your thoughts, knowledge, and, if comfortable, lived experiences to inform police practices and training.
  • Scrutinise processes: Constructively challenge and review police procedures.
  • Engage with the community: Offer feedback to local communities and amplify their voices.

Meeting details

  • The group meets quarterly, either in person or virtually.
  • Meetings are facilitated by Detective Sergeant Charlotte Slaney and led by Detective Chief Inspector Sarah Gilbertson.
  • Members are required to sign a code of conduct and confidentiality agreement.

While this is a voluntary role, expenses will be covered in line with Hertfordshire Constabulary’s policy.

Get involved

By joining the VAWG IAG, you’ll play a key role in driving positive change and ensuring the police response to VAWG is effective, fair, and community-focused.
