The Mayor's message to Watford residents this winter

Elected Mayor, Peter Taylor

"The best way for Watford residents to stay safe and healthy is to get vaccinated this winter. If you've been vaccinated, please continue to get tested regularly. "

To date, almost 70% of people 12 and over are fully vaccinated. As of 22 November, just three quarters (75.5%) of those aged 12 and over in Watford had received a first dose (72.785 people), and just over two thirds (68.4%) were fully vaccinated (65.800 people).

In Watford 42 % of children aged 12 to 15 have received one dose of the Covid 19 vaccination. Data for boosters is not yet being provided at a local level, however as of 22 November, the government dashboard showed that 26.5% of the UK population over 12 have received a booster jab.

For those who haven’t yet taken up the offer there are many ways to get your vaccination.

The Mayor of Watford recently appealed to Watford residents to take booster shots when offered, saying:

“This winter, residents are being encouraged to boost their immunity by taking up the offer of getting the COVID-19 vaccine - either their first, second, or booster jabs as soon as possible.

“If you haven’t had the vaccine, it’s not too late you can still take up the offer. We encourage all age groups still unvaccinated in Watford to come forward before the festive season starts to get their jab so they are protected against any illness.

“We have already seen the positive impact that the COVID-19 vaccinations are having in Watford. Having your vaccination reduces your chances of ending up in hospital with the virus by 96% and it has saved so many lives. This is the best way to protect yourself, your friends and your family this winter.

“If you've been vaccinated, please continue to get tested regularly. Everyone is advised to test at least twice a week. You can visit a testing site where you do a self-swab test (with supervision) or use a home testing kit.”
