Watford resident ordered to repay after council tax non-payment

A Watford resident has been ordered to repay her council tax

Watford Borough Council recently took action against a Watford resident who owed over four years’ council tax.

At St Albans Magistrates Court it was heard that Miss Sagarr Ngum of Whippendell Road owed £6,563.22.

The council tried to engage with Miss Ngum in a whole range of ways in order to resolve the outstanding arrears but legal action was taken when she repeatedly failed to pay any of the money owed.

Councillor Mark Watkin, Cabinet Member for Resources and Customer Service, said: “Watford residents are given every opportunity to work with us when they face difficulties in paying their council tax.

“Unfortunately, there are cases where some people have the resources but refuse to pay. In these cases, we have no option but to take people to court to secure the debt. It is not fair that the rest of the community subsidise their payments and we will take action against people who exploit the system.”
