Drainage problems uncovered during the eight-week works on Nascot Wood Road have meant Ringway, who are responsible for delivering the project on behalf of Hertfordshire County Council, are closing the road for 24 hours a day until early next week (week commencing 20 November).

Drivers are being advised to find alternative routes.

Once the drainage problems have been resolved, the works will revert to the original daytime closures until they are completed (week commencing 4 December).

The official Ringway statement is as follows:

Kevin Carrol, Ringway Divisional Manager, working on behalf of Hertfordshire County Council, said: "In the interest of public safety, we’ve extended the timings for the closure of Nascot Wood Road from daytime only, to 24 hours a day. This change is due to the depth of excavation works required to install the new highways drainage pipes, which have had to be completed by hand rather than machine, to avoid damage to the existing utility connections along the road.

"The new pipes need to be connected to the Thames Water drainage system and these connections must be approved by them before our excavations can be filled in. This is scheduled for early next week. Following this, the road closure will revert to day time only for the remainder of the scheme. We understand the situation is frustrating for local residents and we are working as quickly as we can to complete these works. We apologies for any additional disruption this delay has caused and we aim to complete all the works required here by the end of week commencing 4 December.
