Local residents are invited to share their views on plans submitted to Watford Borough Council for an exciting new wheeled sports centre in Oxhey Park .

The proposals show how the area to the north of Oxhey Park, part of which was formerly the Irish Centre and a car park, could be transformed into a family-focused facility that provides local children and young people with an attractive and safe place to try out their cycling, skate boarding and even scooting skills.  Additional benefits for park users include an eye-catching new café facility, complete with toilets and community room, improvements to the River Colne and better paths and access to and from the park itself.

Councillor Peter Taylor, Cabinet member for parks and open spaces said:

“I am looking forward to hearing what the local community thinks about the proposals. Watford has a lot of families looking for a great place to be active and we know that cycling, skate boarding and scooters are real favourites with young people.  Combined with a café, toilets new play area and even outdoor table tennis tables, this will be an outstanding and popular new facility for the town.

“Over the last year, we have been working closely with the community to shape the proposals. One area they have been very clear on is that the facility must be in keeping with the wonderful Oxhey Park setting. We have maximised the green space, wildlife and nature areas and will use this project to kick start overall improvements to the River Colne, which is currently one of Watford’s more hidden natural assets”.

Oxhey resident, Amy Carr, is thrilled with the council’s plans: “As a parent of a skate boarding enthusiast I have been following these proposals closely and I know that for many young people and their families this will be a fantastic facility. The plans look amazing, with a good balance between the wheeled sports areas and green open space, and the café and toilets will be great for all Oxhey Park users.  We can’t wait!”

Comments can be submitted until 6 November.  To view the plans see: You can feedback online through the webpage or can email
