Watford Borough Council has commenced conduct of a review of its polling districts, places, and stations in the town and is seeking input from community groups and residents to express support for the existing arrangements or suggestion for alternatives.

This assessment seeks to improve the electoral process by making polling locations convenient and accessible to all eligible voters in Watford, promoting a fair and efficient electoral system. It evaluates current arrangements, identifies potential improvements, and ensures easy access to democratic rights for everyone in Watford.

A periodic review takes place every five years to maintain the highest standards of transparency and accountability in the electoral process, and the key aspects include:

  • Optimising accessibility: Assessing the geographical distribution of polling stations to ensure that they are conveniently located and accessible to all residents, including those with disabilities or mobility challenges.
  • Community engagement: Welcoming feedback and suggestions from community groups, registered Watford electors, and stakeholders to understand their specific needs and preferences regarding polling locations.
  • Population changes: Adapting polling districts to accommodate changes in population density, demographic shifts, and residential developments, ensuring that resources are allocated efficiently.
  • Improving facilities: Identifying opportunities to improve the facilities and amenities at existing polling places, making the voting experience more comfortable and welcoming.

Through this review, we strive to make polling districts, places, and stations efficient, and community chosen. We urge residents and groups to share their insights since they know their neighbourhoods best.”

The deadline for submitting feedback and participating in the review is 4 December 2023. The council encourages all eligible participants to get involved in this vital process, as their input will shape the future of polling arrangements in Watford.
