There are plans for two new bus stops to be added at the lower section of Watford High Street, with works due to start Monday 27 June.
The bus stop outside Pepe Rosso opposite Boots will be moved to King Street near the junction of Granville Road. A new bus lay-by will be introduced between Thompsons Travel Agents through to Tesco Express. To help people adjust to the new bus stops there will be flagpoles and timetables clearly visible. The works will be finished by Monday11 July.
This is the first stage of improvement works to the lower section of The High Street, with carriageway resurfacing and footway widening to follow. There are a number of benefits to the scheme, including:
- Giving businesses more room for alfresco dining
- Making the High Street more picturesque
- Providing more space for pedestrians
Elected Mayor of Watford Dorothy Thornhill said: “The new pedestrian crossing over the ring road has already made access to the town centre easier from High Street Station, and the Metropolitan Line Extension will mean more people coming into that end of town. We’re thinking ahead and preparing for that now by making these improvements and widening the pavement.
It’s good for people, good for businesses and will enhance our High Street even more. Watford is a big destination and the Charter Place redevelopment will make it even more so. We need to make sure that travelling through our town centre is as pleasant and easy as possible.”
The buses that travel via this route are: 8,142,258,306 and 306B
Unfortunately, disabled parking spaces will be lost but there are plenty of spaces in our newly refurbished car parks.
