Watford marks Commonwealth Day and commemorates First World War

This week Watford marked Commonwealth Day by raising the Commonwealth flag.

Published: Thursday, 17th March 2016

More than 730 Commonwealth flags were raised at multiple locations in the Commonwealth on Monday 14 March, including outside of Watford Town Hall near the war memorial.

As a collective public expression of commitment to the Commonwealth, the flag-raising event – now in its third year – enables participants to show appreciation for the values the Commonwealth upholds.

Later the same day Town Hall took part in the second UK-wide Single Commemorative Act. A second electric candle will added to the one left last year in Watford Town Hall to symbolise the second year of the First World War and in memory of all those who died during the conflict.
