Plans to explore future options for the Watford to Croxley Link took an important step forward this week with Watford Borough Council’s Cabinet agreeing to seek proposals from leading travel and transport experts on how best to use the opportunity the link offers for greener, quicker ways to travel when they met on Monday (28 February).

Cabinet heard the council’s commitment to protect the land that provides a link from Croxley to Watford Junction opens the door to new ways of using the link and, with transport technology moving forward at a pace, there could be some exciting and ground breaking ideas coming forward.

The council, working in partnership with Hertfordshire County Council and Three Rivers District Council, will be looking for solutions that improve connectivity within the town, linking important areas of Watford like the town centre, hospital, Watford FC and Croxley Park with Watford Junction and the travel network beyond.

Peter Taylor, Elected Mayor of Watford said: “Securing the right solution for the Watford to Croxley Link is an important part of our overall plans for future travel in Watford.  A link that connects Croxley and West Watford to the centre of the town will be a real boost for Watford residents, businesses and our community. This is why we are providing funding, and taking a lead role in the project and will continue to fight to make this opportunity a reality.

“It is great to see that there is already interest from a number of companies to work with us and I look forward to seeing their solutions for Watford later this year. We must make this connection a reality”.

A budget of £150,000 has been set aside from the council’s Community Infrastructure Levy (CIL) money, which is raised from new developments to support the delivery of infrastructure (such as travel and transport) in the town.

An initial meetings last November, generated interest from 50 companies and organisations so it is expected there will be a good level of interest in submitting proposals for consideration this summer.
