Watford will unite in remembrance on Sunday 8 November, paying tribute to the generations of servicemen and women who have served their country and remembering those who made the ultimate sacrifice...

From those who left their homes and families to serve during the First and Second World Wars to the men and women serving in the Armed Forces today, Watford has a proud and enduring connection to Britain's military history.

The town's main Remembrance Sunday ceremony will take place at 3pm on Sunday 8 November at the Peace Memorial outside Watford Town Hall. Representatives from the Royal British Legion and other organisations will lay wreaths in tribute to the fallen.

The ceremony will include a two-minute silence and readings by the Elected Mayor of Watford, Peter Taylor, and the Chairman of the Council, Councillor Sohail Bashir. The service will also be attended by the Vice Chairman of the Council and the Lord-Lieutenant of Hertfordshire.

As part of this year's commemorations, striking silhouette figures of First World War soldiers, known as 'Tommies', will once again be displayed at locations across Watford.

The installations form part of a project by the charity Remembered, helping to bring the stories and sacrifices of those who served to life for new generations. The project also raises awareness and funds to support those living with the hidden wounds of war. A map showing where residents can find the silhouettes will be available on the council's website.

Residents are also invited to attend remembrance services taking place across the borough, providing opportunities for communities to come together, reflect and pay their respects.

Watford has a proud history of supporting our Armed Forces, and we will never forget those who gave their lives for our freedom.
