Watford Market becomes town centre BID member...

Watford Market – managed by Watford Borough Council and Market Asset Management – has joined over 400 businesses and organisations covered by Watford BID, by becoming a voluntary full levy payer to help contribute towards funding for projects which will benefit businesses in the town centre.

The business-led partnership known as Watford BID (Business Improvement District), enables coordinated investment in the management and marketing of the town centre, through the levy which is charged on business rate payers in addition to their business rates bill.

To add to the list of retail, leisure, cultural, voluntary, office and public organisations within BID levy, the addition of Watford Market to the partnership has been made following a number of improvements to the area. This includes brand-new signage, improved entrances, more seating, renovation of the containers, as well as new branding and a planting scheme to make the market greener, more inviting, and to bring a unique character to the space.

The partnership between the market and Watford BID will look to further enhance and showcase what the area has to offer, as well as contribute towards the continued investment of exciting town centre projects.

Elected Mayor of Watford, Peter Taylor, said: “Watford has an outstanding regional town centre, with lots to offer from retail and entertainment to great restaurants, café and bars. The BID has been a large part of this success, making such a positive difference to our town centre over the last five years, from the fantastic summer flowers to the wonderful Christmas lights. It’s brilliant that Watford Market have joined the BID as a voluntary full levy payer.

“Small businesses are the lifeblood of Watford’s economy and make a vital contribution to the success of our town, so I am determined to make sure we have a thriving market for years to come. That’s why we have invested in a number of improvements that will enhance the character of the space and also help increase the number of visitors.”

Maria Manion, Chief Executive of Watford BID said: “The council and Watford BID continues to invest in the town to ensure the business community survive and thrive into the future. We are fortunate to have a town and market which provides a great choice and offer for all our residents and for those who work in the town or visiting. I look forward to work with the traders, Market Asset Management and Watford Borough Council to make sure our market is as successful as it can possibly be.”
