Statement from the Elected Mayor of Watford following the Local Government Reorganisation update

Watford letters

Statement on behalf of Peter Taylor, Elected Mayor of Watford.

“The Government’s review of its Local Government Reorganisation decisions across England, including in Hertfordshire, is incredibly frustrating. Watford and our partner councils have put a huge amount of work and resource into preparing for the new system while ensuring that services for residents aren’t disrupted. This pause creates uncertainty about the future of local government and seriously risks undermining the efforts of everyone involved.

“Importantly, residents and businesses can rest assured that our focus remains firmly on delivering the high-quality services they value and rely on, supporting our communities and driving forward the priorities that matter most locally.

“Whatever the outcome of the review, we will continue to work together with the other Hertfordshire councils in the best interests of our communities and will engage constructively with Government ministers and officials. Despite this setback, we will remain well prepared to respond once the review has concluded and further direction is provided.”
