Museum of Watford, which has been funded by The National Lottery Heritage Fund thanks to National Lottery players, is inviting local families to take part in The Big Bollywood Family Dance Off.
The event is a free, fun-filled workshop marking South Asian Heritage Month.
Taking place on Friday 31 July 2026 from 11am to 11:45am at The Barn, Croxley Business Park, the interactive session will be led by acclaimed dance practitioner Mohit Mathur, a Rifco artist with extensive experience in Bollywood performance and community engagement.
Designed for all ages and abilities, the workshop offers families the chance to learn energetic Bollywood-inspired dance moves in a welcoming and inclusive environment. Participants can choose to join in the dancing or simply come along to watch and enjoy the spectacle.
The event forms a light-touch acknowledgement of South Asian Heritage Month, celebrating the rich cultural contributions and traditions of South Asian communities through the universal language of dance.
Children must be accompanied by an adult, whether they choose to take part or watch from the sidelines.
As part of the celebration, attendees can also discover a local connection to Bollywood cinema. The recently released Bollywood thriller Nikita Roy filmed multiple scenes in Watford, highlighting the town's growing profile as a location for film and television productions.
All ages and abilities welcome. Children must be accompanied by an adult.
Elected Mayor of Watford, Peter Taylor, said: “South Asian Heritage Month is an important opportunity to recognise and celebrate the rich histories, cultures and contributions of South Asian communities, which continue to play a vital role in shaping Watford's diverse and vibrant identity.
“Events like The Big Bollywood Family Dance Off bring people together through creativity, culture and fun, while helping us learn more about one another's traditions and experiences. I would encourage residents of all ages to come along, whether to take part or simply watch, and join us in celebrating South Asian Heritage Month in an inclusive and enjoyable way."
Places are free, and attendees can book either to participate in the workshop or to watch.
