This Pride Month, residents and visitors are invited to take part in a vibrant, creative celebration of inclusion, identity, and belonging at a special community event in the heart of Watford.
Taking place on Friday 5 June 2026, from 11am to 3pm at Charter Place, Harlequin Shopping Centre, “A Place Without Prejudice” brings together the Museum of Watford, Proud Watford, and Proud Hornets to inspire imagination, self-expression, and a shared vision of a kinder, more welcoming town.
The event invites people of all ages to explore Watford’s LGBTQ+ history while contributing to a growing community artwork that celebrates diversity and pride.
As part of our Heritage Fund-supported Museum on Tour programme, the Museum of Watford team will be holding a creative workshop where visitors can:
- Explore objects that capture LGBTQ+ histories in Watford
- Create their own artwork – drawing, colouring, or writing – to add to a collective display
- Enter a prize draw, with prizes generously provided by Watford FC and Proud Watford
- Discover inspiring local artworks, imagining how Watford could become a place without prejudice
The event also encourages open, positive conversations about identity and inclusion, while offering a fun, hands-on activity during Pride Month.
Throughout Charter Place, visitors will be able to look up and around to see a growing display of artworks created by local people, each reflecting their own vision of a more inclusive Watford where everyone feels at home.
Elected Mayor of Watford, Peter Taylor, said: “In Watford we’ve always been a town that celebrates our diversity and community spirit. Events like this are a wonderful reminder that creativity can bring people together and helps us to make sure that everyone feels welcome, valued, and respected. I encourage residents and visitors alike to get involved and share their vision of a place without prejudice.”
Ian Port, Founder and Chair of Proud Watford, said: “Proud Watford is delighted to work alongside the Museum in this important National Pride Month event. We hope the 13 inspiring artworks in our installation, created by our members and local artists, represent their own interpretation of our tag line 'a place without prejudice', set against the colours of the Progress Flag. We're very excited to discover even more interpretations of this very confident and progressive vision for the future of our town and the wider world. Good luck!”
A representative from Proud Hornets: “Proud Hornets are Watford FC’s LGBQT+ supporters’ group. Formed in 2017, the group is open to anyone who shares their aims and is best known for organising a rainbow mosaic alongside The 1881 Movement in the club’s Rookery Stand before one of the Hornets’ dedicated Rainbow Laces matches. The match which was shown live on BT Sports and the display drew national and worldwide attention.”
Admission is free, and all are welcome.
