How we have helped Watford residents get online

How we have helped

We know that for some of our residents it is not easy to get online and they may find themselves digitally excluded because they are unable to:

  • Access equipment to get online, such as a computer, tablet or smartphone - this can also include only having access to an inadequate or shared device.
  • Connect to the internet reliably or at all, either through lack of an internet connection in the household, lack of data allowance, or poor Wi-Fi availability in the area.
  • Use technology due to a lack of skills, confidence, motivation or accessibility issues.

'Staying Connected' digital inclusion project

The 'Staying Connected' digital inclusion project is led by W3RT, and is aimed at improving the health and wellbeing of those the scheme supports. The scheme can help those eligible to:

  • Access equipment or connectivity by gifting them a refurbished laptop, tablet or mobile phone, or arranging for access to start up Wi-Fi to connect to the internet.
  • Overcome fear of using technology and / or improving digital skills by connecting the beneficiary to a W3RT digital champion who can support them to learn online skills such as online shopping, attending medical appointments, classes and activities online or how to communicate with friends and family through Zoom/Skype/WhatsApp.

To be eligible for the scheme the beneficiary must be 18+ years of age and need help with accessing health appointments and information as well as staying connected with their friends, families and communities. The equipment also helps people apply for work and continue their education, volunteering and other interests.
