White Ribbon UK is the UK's leading charity engaging men and boys to help prevent violence against women and girls. Through our accreditation, the council continues to take meaningful action to challenge harmful attitudes and behaviours, raise awareness, and create a culture where abuse and violence are never tolerated.
Watford Borough Council is proud to have been successfully re-accredited by White Ribbon UK in October 2025, demonstrating our ongoing commitment to ending violence against women and girls and promoting healthy, respectful relationships.
Our Commitment
As a White Ribbon Accredited Organisation, Watford Borough Council is committed to:
- Raising awareness of violence against women and girls (VAWG) and its impact on individuals, families and communities.
- Encouraging staff, councillors and residents to become White Ribbon Ambassadors or Champions.
- Promoting safe, respectful and inclusive communities.
- Challenging inappropriate behaviour, language and attitudes that contribute to violence and abuse.
- Supporting national and local campaigns aimed at preventing domestic abuse, sexual violence and other forms of gender-based violence.
- Working with partners across Hertfordshire to improve support for victims and survivors.
White Ribbon Ambassadors and Champions
White Ribbon Ambassadors and Champions are individuals who make a personal commitment to never use, excuse or remain silent about violence against women and girls.
Ambassadors and Champions help to:
- Raise awareness of the issue.
- Promote positive role models and healthy relationships.
- Encourage others to speak out against abuse.
- Support activities and campaigns within their workplace and community.
White Ribbon Day
Every year, Watford Borough Council supports White Ribbon Day on 25th November, marking the start of the international 16 Days of Action Against Gender-Based Violence campaign. Throughout the campaign, the council works with local partners to raise awareness and promote support services available to those affected by abuse.
