Following two consecutive weekends with unacceptable levels of littering in and around Cassiobury Park, approximately thirty volunteers turned out last Saturday for two hours of litter picking...
Organised by the Friends of Cassiobury Park (FoCP), the volunteers young and old, blitzed the park armed with protective gloves, grabber sticks and refuse sacks.
“We usually hold a litter picking session on the third Saturday of every month, however due to the huge increase in litter over the last two weeks, we decided to hold an extra event” commented Peter Jenkins, Chair of FoCP. “We received a mass of calls, e mails and general social media comment all voicing concern and an eagerness to help. We have also noticed a considerable spike in new FoCP membership applications this week as a result.”
Conservative estimates show that over 30 refuse sacks were filled during the morning session, with all rubbish gathered for a coordinated removal by Watford Council/Veolia staff. Further membership information and details of regular volunteering sessions are listed on the FoCP web site www.friendsofcassioburypark.org.uk
