The Green Gym's fantastic team member Dave Lawson was runner up for the People's Postcode Lottery Volunteer of the Year Award.
Watford Green Gym was formed in April 2010 and Dave joined in the summer of that first year. Since Watford Green Gyms’ inception Dave has attended over 800 sessions. This number, whilst impressive, does not do justice to the outstanding contribution he has made to thegroup over the years.
He took on the role of “toolman” in his own quiet, unassuming way. Week in - week out, whatever the weather he arrives 30 minutes before anyone else to get the tools ready for the days activity and is the last to leave, making sure all tools have been returned and locked safely in the shed.
Dave’s dedication is not of course limited to tools. The energy and drive Dave brings to the group is an enormous asset, as is his infectious cheery manner and good nature. Even after suffering a broken hip last year (whilst walking his dog) he returned after a few months, all be it limping a little, to continue as “toolman” and working during the sessions.
Dave has a great belief in the aspirations and ethos of Green Gym and as a popular hard working member of the team, has contributed to many of the Green Gym's objectives being achieved over the years. Dave is not flamboyant or attention grabbing but he really is the core of what Green Gym is about.
