Watford prepares for National Fitness Day
Watford is gearing up for this year’s National Fitness Day, an event which will see the local community get active through a range of fun activities designed to make exercise accessible.
Watford Leisure Centre Central and Watford Leisure Centre Woodside, both operated by Everyone Active on behalf of Watford Borough Council, will host free activities on National Fitness Day which takes place on Wednesday 25 September.
Watford Central Leisure Centre will host an evening group fitness walk from 6pm which will take walkers on a tour of the town from the facility to Watford Football Club and back.
Watford Woodside Leisure Centre will also showcase an intensive ‘hurricane’ personal training circuit from 6-8pm, offering bookable slots with personal trainers for those who wish to attend. Free Les Mills virtual fitness class passes will also be given out to Everyone Active members.
Gary Foley, Contract Manager at Everyone Active, said: “We’re thoroughly looking forward to welcoming people of all fitness levels down to our facilities on National Fitness Day and have some fantastic activities in store.
“It’s a chance for families and individuals to try out different and fun ways to keep active - from being social and joining our evening group fitness walk to testing skills and speed during circuit classes, there will be something for everyone.”
Elected Mayor of Watford, Peter Taylor, said: “It’s great to see our town’s leisure centres supporting National Fitness Day and providing free activities to help keep residents active. At a time when councils are facing big cuts in our budgets from central government, it’s so important that we can continue to provide first class affordable facilities for people in our town."
National Fitness Day is an annual event which takes place during the European Week of Sport and celebrates the benefits of physical activity for health, happiness and wellbeing. Coordinated by health body ukactive and supported by AXA PPP healthcare, it aims to raise awareness of the importance of leading healthy, active lifestyles.
