Former Watford FC stars are supporting a local leisure operator to get families across Watford active as part of two free fun events this September.

Everyone Active will be joined by Richard Lee and Lloyd Doyley as it hosts a duo of open days later this month.

Families are invited to Watford Woodside Leisure Centre on Sunday 22 September to meet Lloyd Doyley and join in with a host of free events. They will then have the opportunity to meet Richard Lee when Watford Central opens its doors to the community on the following Sunday, 29 September. Activities will run from 11am – 3pm at both events, with the footballers arriving at 1pm.

Lee and Doyley are both graduates of Watford FC’s academy and went on to enjoy careers in the Hornet’s first team. Visitors to the open days will have the opportunity to meet the footballers as well as enjoying a host of free activities at the two centres, including swimming, exercise classes and a bouncy castle and face painting to keep the children entertained.

Gary Foley, Everyone Active contract manager, said: “We’re passionate about getting the local community active and what better way for families to enjoy a fun day out than to meet two of Watford’s sporting heroes.

“All of our activities will be free across the events and we’re looking forward to welcoming local families and friends to our Watford Woodside and Watford Central leisure centres.”

Elected Mayor of Watford, Peter Taylor, said: “We have two fantastic leisure centres in Watford and I’m proud that we can continue to deliver free activities such as these open days, for families to enjoy. At a time when councils are facing big cuts in our budgets from central government, it’s so important that we can continue to provide first class affordable facilities for people in our town through these types of opportunities.”

The two leisure centres are managed by Everyone Active on behalf of Watford Borough Council. Through the partnership, they have recently received a £1.8million refurbishment. Customers now benefit from larger gyms with state-of-the-art equipment, a new toning suite at Watford Woodside and new virtual group cycling classes.
