The Great British Spring Clean, which runs from Friday 22 March to Tuesday 23 April led by Keep Britain Tidy is an initiative with a simple aim: to bring people across the country together to clear up the litter that blights our towns, villages, countryside and parks.

Last year’s campaign saw over a hundred residents, school children, councillors and Veolia staff get together to clean up eight different areas of Watford.

Elected Mayor of Watford, Peter Taylor said: “We are very proud to support this fantastic initiative once again. The Great British Spring Clean is the perfect opportunity for residents to get active outdoors and help clear up any rubbish that you see. Don’t forget that you can borrow the litter-pickers free of charge throughout the year, not just in March so we can continue to keep Watford clean.”

Darren Harding, Senior Contract Manager at Veolia Watford who will be helping coordinate the clean-ups said: “The Great British Spring Clean campaign is a perfect opportunity to support our community and show that we are truly proud of Watford. It also sets a wonderful example and sends a message out to those who drop litter that this behaviour isn’t acceptable. We hope that this year’s clean-up will once again inspire many people to help keep Watford beautiful and litter free.”

Veolia will be supporting groups by loaning litter-picking kits and bags on a first-come, first-served basis free of charge available throughout the year and will be collecting all waste and recycling produced from the events. If you would like get involved and organise your own clean-up or would like to join an existing group please get in touch by emailing enquiries.watford@veolia.co.uk and don’t forget to share your photos with the council on social media at @WatfordCouncil and use the hashtag #WatfordSpringClean
