The council received more than 400 responses, which included over 8,400 individual comments and survey answers. All comments received within the consultation period have been recorded and published at watfordlocalplan.co.uk.

The Local Plan sets a growth strategy for Watford up to 2036 and will guide planning decisions and new development. It will set out key issues, such as how many jobs are needed in the town and where housing should go. The purpose of the Issues and Options consultation was to seek your views about how Watford should develop and grow in the future and where, in broad terms, new development should be located to meet identified needs.

Elected Mayor of Watford Peter Taylor said: “We need residents to work with us on this New Local Plan to ensure Watford continues to be a vibrant and thriving town. Managing the growth that is coming is going to be tricky but we are determined to make it work in Watford’s favour. Part of that means making sure that the right transport and other essential infrastructure is in place. We must also make sure that local residents have excellent employment opportunities and access to quality housing. This is about making sure decisions about our town are made here in Watford, with the help of local people.”

Over the next few months, the council will be considering the comments that have been submitted and how these can inform the preparation of the New Watford Local Plan. Our response to the comments submitted as part of the consultation will be available on the council’s website in the second half of 2019.

This will accompany the draft New Local Plan, which will include draft proposed planning policies and sites for potential development for public consultation. This will be made available for public comment in autumn 2019, so keep an eye out so you can have your say and share your views.
