Playdays come to Watford: mark the dates in your diary

As part of Playday, the UK’s national day for play, children aged 5 to 15 and their families are invited to take part in three days of fun activities across Watford – most of which are free.

Playday is traditionally held on the first Wednesday in August but Watford Borough Council’s Play team is going the extra mile and spreading the celebration over three days so as many children possible can get involved.

Elected Mayor of Watford Dorothy Thornhill said: “As a parent and a former teacher, I know how important play is for children’s wellbeing and development. Modern day life can be busy and fraught. These playdays simply give families the opportunity to come together to have fun and enjoy each other’s company. It is so important that most of the activities are free so that all Watford families have the chance to take part.”

Tuesday 4 August
11am - 4pm
Callowland Recreation Ground
What better way to wear out the kids than with an inflatable assault course, bouncy castle and giant laser tag. There will also be zip lining, games and activities, plus a special visit from Lego. You’ll be challenged to build cool and original things out of Lego and there may even be some prizes on offer.

Wednesday 5 August
11am - 4pm
Harebreaks Adventure Playground
More bouncy castle action, music and activities will be filling up Harebreaks APG. To celebrate Watford FC’s promotion to the Premiership, Harry the Hornet will also be buzzing around for the day and first prize in the raffle is a Watford FC signed football.

Thursday 6 August
11am - 4pm
Harwoods Adventure Playground
Take a trip down the rabbit hole and join in the Alice in Wonderland fancy dress fun. The Play team will be picking out the best fancy dress costumes (and they’ll be making an effort themselves too!). Giant inflatables and games will keep the kids busy and a visit from Lego and the Hertfordshire Fire Service will be the icing on the cake.

Now in its 28th year, Playday is the biggest play sector event in the UK. As well as a celebration of children's right to play, Playday is a campaign that highlights the importance of play in children's lives. Playday is coordinated by Play England, in partnership with Play Wales, Play Scotland and PlayBoard Northern Ireland.
