Thousands of people flocked to Cassiobury Park earlier this month (Saturday 6 November) to enjoy the annual free fireworks extravaganza organised by Watford Borough Council, which also recorded its all-time highest amount of visitors and donations for local charities to date.

Estimated crowds of more than 40,000 visited the park for Saturday’s spectacular, where they were treated to children’s funfair rides, bungee trampolines and a variety of food and drink outlets. Park-visitors were also treated to pre-fireworks musical entertainment by Watford’s community radio station Vibe 107.6FM, with the highlight of the night hearing the crowd singing Neil Diamond’s song Sweet Caroline together.

This year’s dazzling display promised to be bigger and better after its absence last year and the 20-minute firework display didn’t disappoint, with many hailing it as the best event to date. The biggest attendance that the Cassiobury Fireworks has ever recorded, also resulted in an amazing £11,780 raised for local charities.

Elected Mayor of Watford Peter Taylor said: “Providing a programme of high quality outdoor entertainment for families to enjoy free of charge is one of our priorities and it was great to see so many thousands of people taking advantage of the opportunity.

“Fireworks Night is loved by many residents and visitors, with the display being one of the most spectacular in Hertfordshire. I was delighted that it was able to return this year and that we managed to raise over £11,000 for several charities through the Covid Community Grant Fund. A huge thank you to all those who made the evening a success, to everyone that donated and to all the volunteers from the Lions and Rotary Clubs on the night.”

The Cassiobury Fireworks are part of a wider programme of Big Events staged by Watford Borough Council and its partners in the town centre and Cassiobury Park throughout the year.
