Thousands of American musicians join Big Bandstand line-up

The first of many enormous American bands performing at Watford Borough Council’s Big Bandstand as part of the Voyageurs line-up will take to the stage from 12noon-2pm this Friday (15 June).

The musicians – a collection of talented high school students carefully selected by their teachers – will travel from 16 different states of America for a series of Cassiobury Park concerts. Some of the bands scheduled to perform are made up of more than 100 musicians. You’ll find them at the Big Bandstand, near The Cha Café and the park’s Shepherds Road entrance. The Voyageurs’ Cassiobury Park shows will mark the beginning of a European tour that will take in countries such as France, Switzerland, Germany and Austria. The first of the Voyageurs’ concerts will be performed by bands from Georgia and Florida.

The Voyageurs have been a part of Big Bandstand – which includes performances by talented local bands from 2-4pm every Sunday – since its launch last year. Voyageurs Coordinator Jodie Forsyth said: “Cassiobury Park is beautiful. The people we have met there are so nice, and we look forward to coming time and time again to perform for you.”

Peter Taylor, elected Mayor of Watford, said: “I’m delighted to welcome these amazingly talented musicians back to England for a second year. Cassiobury has been voted one of the UK’s top 10 parks and it’s easy to see why when we’re able to put on such first-class free shows for our visitors. The Voyageurs will perform everything from classic rock to Glenn Miller, and I can’t wait to hear them again.”

Watford’s bandstand was restored and returned to its original Cassiobury home in 2016 as part of a £6.6m regeneration of the park. The project was funded by the council, the Heritage Lottery Fund and the Big Lottery Fund.
