One of the primary goals of the new crematorium is to offer an expanded capacity for the west Hertfordshire region, ensuring that residents have access to two exceptional facilities in which to say goodbye to their loved ones. With longer service times and extensive media choices, the facility aims to provide the community with a peaceful environment for families to pay their final respects.

All residents and interested parties are invited to join this unique opportunity to witness the dedication and care that has gone into creating this facility, which has been designed to meet the funeral needs of the community. There will be a guided tour of the entire site and the opportunity to learn about the services provided.

The Open Days will be held on the following dates:

  • Thursday 3 August – 10am – 4pm
  • Saturday 5 August – 9-1pm

There is no need to book, but attendees are advised that the last tour of the day will be 3pm on Thursday 3 August and 12pm on Saturday 5 August. The address of the new site is:

David Major, Chair of the West Herts Crematorium Joint Committee, said: “We are very pleased to be opening this new crematorium for families in our communities. Our goal when starting this project was to provide a special and respectful place where people can say goodbye to their loved-ones, and we believe this wonderful facility will do just that.”

Elected Mayor of Watford Peter Taylor said: “It is important that we lay our loved ones to rest in a timely way and that we have a beautiful and peaceful place to commemorate them and the lives they have lived. This will be an important place of remembrance, playing a solemn role in many people’s lives, so I am very pleased to see the completion of the new crematorium.”

Cllr Sarah Nelmes, the Leader of Three Rivers District Council, said: “The opening of this new crematorium is a key moment for families and communities across Three Rivers. Having the right place in which families and friends can say goodbye to loved ones is so important and, in addition to the service already provided by West Herts Crematorium in High Elms Lane, this new building will provide a very special location in which that can happen.

The new crematorium has been so thoughtfully and creatively designed, and will in the future allow time for longer ceremonies which can make such a difference for all those affected by grief.”

Cllr Robin Bromham, Portfolio Holder for Neighbourhood Operations, Dacorum Borough Council, said “I am pleased to announce the opening of the new Hemel Hempstead Crematorium on the Bedmond Road.  The building architecture incorporates complex shapes with wooden structures, to provide a serene and comforting place to say our final farewells to loved ones.  The surroundings are landscaped and planted to compliment Bunkers Park and Long Deans valley beyond.”
