The council have announced the return of the FREE 'Big Screen', bringing the magic of movies to the town once again. Grab your popcorn and settle in for an unforgettable cinematic experience...

From 24 July to until 6 August, the council’s Big Screen will return once again to Watford, with screenings showing in the Town Centre from 24 to 30 July and in Woodside Playing Fields from 31 July to 6 August, showing some of the world’s cinematic favourites.

At the outdoor cinema, visitors can enjoy a diverse selection of films ranging from beloved animated classics like Toy Story, The Jungle Book, and The Little Mermaid to iconic adventures such as Back to the Future, Jaws, and Top Gun: Maverick.

There will also be heartwarming family favourites like Paddington 2, Matilda, and Mary Poppins, and the musical biopics like Whitney Houston: I Wanna Dance with Somebody and Elvis. Film enthusiasts can also indulge in some nostalgia with movies like Wallace & Gromit: The Curse of the Were-Rabbit, and Who Framed Roger Rabbit, and experience newer releases including Black Widow, Turning Red, The Super Mario Bros. Movie, Fast and Furious 10 and Lightyear.

Food and drinks vendors will be at Woodside Playing Fields, stocked full of various delicious treats and cooling drinks to help you get as comfortable as possible and relax into the cinematic experience. For the town centre, visitors can enjoy all the high street has to offer for refreshments as well.

The event is free and booking isn’t required, so all you need to do is turn up with blankets or chairs, and chill out. If you’re looking for an easy and environmentally-friendly method of travel, consider using our Beryl Bikes – with bays conveniently located at both sites – or click your way with ArrivaClick.

Big Screen is part of Watford Borough Council’s Big Events Programme, a series of sensational summer events for residents and non-residents alike. There’s something for everyone, whether you’re looking to soak up the sun on Watford’s very own Big Beach, put your fitness to the test in Big Sports, or wave your rainbow flag at this year’s Herts Pride!

Elected Mayor of Watford, Peter Taylor, said: "The Big Screen, a mainstay in our Big Events programme, continues to captivate residents with its free screenings, providing the perfect way to spend time with family and friends in the summer. With an expanded film lineup this year, we welcome everyone to join us and watch these great films in the town centre and Woodside Playing Fields."
